Tourism in Guatemala City
Guatemala has its origin in antiquity, coming from the time of the Mayas. It then became both a place of passage and a home for the Catholic religious community under Spanish colonization. Since then the city has undergone difficult modifications in its structure, generating a metropolitan area of important dimensions. Nevertheless it was able to conserve something of its historical patrimony in the center of the capital.
The country contains a very diverse culture due to the multitude of ethnic groups who populated the country and continue to reside here. There are 22 languages to be found in Guatemala, among them Mayan languages and Xincas. Throughout the length and breadth of the country we can enjoy a multitude of perfect places for tourism, from relaxing on a beach in the sun to 4-wheel drive trips in the interior. Surfing, scuba-diving and bird watching make Guatemala a multi-activity destination, not over crowded and yet up to date with the latest amenities.
The most outstanding and popular places in the city are Old Guatemala, the Basilica of Esquipulas, the Castle of San Felipe, the Rio Dulce, Tikan National Park, the cascades of Tatasirire, Panajachel, Comalapa, Pacaya volcano, Quetzaltenango and the lake of Atitlán. There are a great many places to visit and enjoy in this country, considered to be the soul of the Earth.
